This was my very first Nokia mobile phone (model 3310), I bought it for $42 !!
At times I envy our younger generation because in our 20's we dint had platforms like YouTube and Linkedin. Today they could learn so much so early in every sphere of life, health career, etc.
Being a job struggler, I remember reading "Sakaal" times (local newspaper in Maharashtra, India) a night before to find any walk-in drives for the next day.
The next morning with a resume and mark sheet in our hands and a borrowed tie we all used to leave for our "treasure job hunting". Being in a group meant we can share the auto ride to the IT park.
Sitting outside company gates for hours, suddenly the security used to shout - "only 80% and above (X and XII) should stay and rest leave" :)
Suddenly the crowd gathered outside these big IT firms started dispersing with some of us persuading the guards to let us appear for the aptitude test.
On our way back, we used to visit the cyber cafe and spend some leisure time checking "Orkut". Also, update our resume for the next day.
This was our everyday story until eventually we were able to crack a job interview and land our first job in IT.
Maybe we could have done things differently with guidance, tried starting something of our own, learn stocks, cryptos, and whatnot.
But I think few things worked somewhat well for us -
1] Lack of options - This ensured we had only one aim which was to get a job, no hustling !
2] Lack of Information - Less information meant we knew less and had lesser confusion
3] Lack of comparison - Because we did not see the world we never felt we were drowning.
4] Lack of Automation - This meant companies needed higher bench strength and workforce
Every generation has its share of goods and bad. But as knowledge is the antidote to fear, this generation is bound to be way more fearless and innovative than ours which is good for the world.
And we will always be there to hold hands, support and follow the path paved by this generation to see the evolution of technology.
This newsletter is my way to connect with you all and share my knowledge and learning on every week. I will share whatever I learn in technology space and in life in general.
